What is a child of God?
While all mankind is the creation of God, not all men are his spiritual children. The Lord
Jesus told the religious leaders of His day, "Ye are of your father, the devil. . ." (John 8:44). In their natural state,
all men descended from Adam are spiritually "dead" (Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:5).
The opening
chapter of the Gospel of John tells us that Jesus the Messiah came unto His own people, "but his own received him not." It
then gives this wonderful invitation to you and to me:
"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power
to become the sons (lit. children) of God, even to them that believe in His name." --John 1:12
The Bible teaches that when a person receives the Lord Jesus Christ into his or her heart,
that person is born again by the Spirit of God (John 1:13), thus becoming, in the spiritual sense, a
child of God. The Bible calls this process regeneration, because the believer's spirit, which was once dead
is now made alive.
Whenever a man or woman, boy or girl becomes a child of God, through faith in Christ, he
or she becomes an heir to the promises of God, as found in the Word of God (2 Peter 1:1-4). The Bible now takes on new meaning
and clarity, and for the first time in his or her life, the believer can now truly know God and enjoy a life of fellowship
with Him, in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 2:14; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
- If you are not a child of God, why not become one NOW, by confessing your sin and
receiving Jesus Christ as your own personal Saviour.?
- Simply go to Him in prayer, ask Him to forgive your sins and invite Him to come into your
heart and life.
- Then begin claiming the promises of His Word!
